Benny Mayne

Plain and simple, Benny Mayne is the rising artist you never realized you were missing.

Growing up in Toronto, CA with a love + appreciation for all the Hip Hop Greats (G-UNIT, Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, etc – you get the picture), by the time he was a high school student, Benny was in full awareness of his desire and mission to become an artist.

“There was a point where I wanted to make it (songwriting) my identity. Everyone in high school had their thing and I wanted to make my thing. That’s when I realized that it’s what I wanted to do with my life”

Other than the fact that Hip Hop inhabits some of the greatest talent, Benny resonated with it for a multitude of reasons, most encompassing around the individualistic natures of the genre. To Benny, there was a rebellious factor within Hip Hop; a chorus of cuss words roamed the lyrics, parents were mortified by what they saw as potential negative influences, and not to mention (in fact probably the most important piece) the depth, soul, and struggle surrounding the messages in the songs themselves. Resonating to the core of his soul, Benny identified greatly with much of what the Artists lyricized. What started as a fascination with what he saw as a rebellious culture, created a path of soul-finding + self-realization, and ultimately lead the way for confronting all parts of himself through lyric and song.

Taking from all that he learned by listening to his idols, Benny began to create his own music, lyrically defining his own personal experiences (such as break ups, hardships, and essentially all life experiences that yield a sharp edge). Despite many years of rapping + performing, Benny recognized his success would greatly improve (and depend) on his ability to better know himself; admirably, he chose to step away from what he had built, and venture onto a journey of self-rediscovery. Recognizing the importance of accepting change, and being open to change, he realized he had no fears when it came to relearning, restructuring, and rebuilding. In fact, he became so very aware of the importance of letting go, free falling, and receiving what change brings.

“Change with the times, but don’t necessarily change who you are. You can still be authentic and be on any kind of musical production; your personality will shine through.”

The culmination of rediscovering himself, letting go of any tight reigns, and being receptive to what change brings, Benny found himself exploring his music in a slightly different way. Continuing to honor and pay homage to his idols, he manages to implement some of the hip hop influences he grew up with; but his style has shifted as he explores the realm of singing.

In interviewing Benny, Eddy (host of Nebula Music Podcast) related to, and admired Benny’s story.

“I absolutely loved getting to know Benny Mayne. It’s abundantly clear that he’s incredibly talented and puts 110% effort into his music. He’s not afraid of showing who he is through his music. His talent of being honest, while incorporating trendy musical elements, is what makes Benny Mayne a force to be reckoned with. He’s a future star in the making. “

Benny Mayne is the rising artist you never realized you were missing. And now you do.
